Individual Therapy

As a veteran therapist with more than fifteen years experience, Michelle has worked with children, adolescents and adults. She has worked in residential treatment centers, inpatient psychiatric hospitals and outpatient settings. Michelle has been practicing therapy in the Grand Rapids area for the past 15 years. She treats adults and occasionally older adolescents (by referral). She has helped clients overcome eating disorders ranging from severe anorexia nervosa to binge eating disorder. Michelle has been instrumental in assisting clients with setting healthy boundaries and assertive communication to foster healthier relationships, change careers, and attain physical health and more. She incorporates mindfulness into her treatment approach so clients learn to acknowledge their emotions and thoughts accept them without judgment and feel more at peace in their lives. Michelle supports clients in their journeys through grief, depression and anxiety with compassion and empathy. She’ll assist them with new “tools” and options to “think differently” about their situations, thoughts and feelings thus aiding in the healing process.

Relationship Therapy

If you are looking for help with your marriage, improve your relationship with your significant other or a family member, Michelle offers therapy for many types of relational issues. She has experience using different family systems approaches, changing communication dynamics, and helping clients to learn to recognize and change unhealthy patterns. From there, interpersonal and relational growth occurs. Michelle offers a non-judging, compassionate role in guiding couples toward their goals while teaching them what they can change.
